Public Input & Actions

BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

BLM Colorado reopens some public lands closed for public, firefighter safety

BLM will reopen some public lands in Mesa County after the Turner Gulch wildfire prompted land closures. Some areas remain closed to keep the public, firefighters safe while crews continue to work in the area.

Due to moderation of fire conditions throughout Northwest Colorado, Stage 2 fire restrictions are lifted effective September 11, 2025. Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in effect.

BLM planning annual prescribed burns

The Bureau of Land Management is preparing three prescribed burns northwest of Cañon City, Colo. Burns will take place between late September 2025 and April 2026 as weather and fuel moisture conditions permit.

BLM reduces size of land closure in Garfield and Eagle Counties for Derby Fire

Today, the Bureau of Land Management issued a public land closure order to reopen some public lands in Garfield and Eagle Counties that were closed because of the Derby Fire.

Tres Rios Field Office to end all fire restrictions

Dolores, Colo. – All current fire restrictions in place have been rescinded effective September 5, 2025, for all public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Tres Rios Field Office.
